Logos!

A small form building job I recently accepted has turned into a branding opportunity.  I am working on my first logo! It’s going well so far, it is text based…and I LOVE typography!

Once the branding is complete I will be creating a group of fillable forms…another one of my specialties.

I’m excited to add a new item to the old list of services…stay tuned for the final product.

embedding your fonts…let everyone see the beauty!

Embedding fonts is a quick and easy way to preserve your design across multiple computers.

It is a sad fact that I have come to understand…not everyone spends their nights downloading fonts.  They don’t have a font library that numbers over 1,000.  Many people just stick with the fonts that their computer came with, and they should be able to enjoy your amazing creation too!

Here is how to embed your fonts in Word and PDF form:

In word 2007 and Above

Press the Office Button

Click Word Options

Save

Click the Embed Fonts Checkbox…this gives you the option to embed only the characters used in the document.  Use this option if there won’t be any additional changes needed.  You can also opt to not embed common fonts, this will also help keep the size down.  So if you are using your spiffy font and Times New Roman, you can choose to not embed the common font (Times) and it will make your document smaller.

Embedding Fonts in PDF

Print to PDF

Click the Properties Button in the Print Menu and uncheck the box that says “Rely on system fonts only, do not use document fonts”

Click OK

Print

Voila!  Now you have documents with fonts everyone can see!

single jobs are the bee’s knees

I have regular clients that I love, but there is something to be said for an assignment that is quick and easy!  A lot of my recent work has been along those lines.  “I need a 1 page flyer”, “Can you fix my PowerPoint presentation?”.  The variety that this offers is really great, also the ability to do new things, try different colors etc. has been really exciting.  When you work with someone on a consistent basis, their branding becomes ingrained in your mind.  I am really enjoying seeing different things and helping people set up clean and precise marketing pieces.

{web updates}

I was recently asked by Yo Mama Yoga to integrate the Boulder Doula Circle website into the Yo Mama Boulder site.  I think it turned out pretty cute!

{online solution} dropdo

Here is a interesting site that I just stumbled on…Dropdo!  It is an online viewing and sharing tool that makes collaboration a snap!  If I need to share a file, I can just upload it here, send the link, and the other person can view it without downloading it first.  I know that Google Docs will let you view a PDF or a Word doc, but this has over 100 viewable file types.  For example, you can’t view iWork files in Google Docs.  You can also quickly share links to files on your website without having to upload them to your FTP or storage.

{document formatting}

I have gotten some very fun assignments in the last few weeks, getting me back to my “roots”…document formatting.  I never thought that this would be my favorite task, but maybe it is because I have done so much of it!  I have gotten the opportunity to help with creating a new format for environmental reports.  This is something I have wanted to do for awhile.  After working with these types of reports for so long, it was nice to bring my experience into that.

I have also been busy making new flyers for the Music Therapy Studio.  They are fun, and family friendly…and best of all COLORFUL!  I really like putting color into flyers, I like clean and eye-catching designs.  I like to imagine those flyer boards with a million different visuals bombarding you.  What is going to get your attention in the moment?  For me it is good design and color.

Well, back to work.  Have a great day!

{online solution} flight searches the way I always dreamed

I recently stumbled across the best flight search site that I have seen…Hipmunk.  It is set up exactly the way I always dreamed of searching for flights.

The main thing that I love about Hipmunk is the way that it searches for flights.  When I am flying, sometimes I am willing to pay just a bit more to leave at a certain time, or I want to get in before 5:00p.  The way these results are generated it is VERY easy to plan your travel.

In the above example, I searched for flights from Denver to New York City.  Hipmunk can use either city or airport code, and you can use a combination and it still works.  Since there are several cities you could fly into those are also listed.  Here you have your bars of the flights, if there is a layover it shows you which city.  You can sort by every factor: price, duration, departure, arrival and agony which is a combination.  Choose which flight you prefer and it will give you a link to purchase the flight at the price it shows.
